Our charity, Nema, has had phenomenal success in implementing cost-efficient projects with communities living in extreme poverty and relying on dwindling environmental resources.
Nema was first established to channel our philanthropy from our award-winning hotel, Guludo Beach Lodge. Now, Nema has effected the lives of tens of thousands of people through cost-effective projects. Our success has been through our complete transparency, integrity and, most importantly, the way we partner with communities. Nema is now ready to grow and expand and is looking for hotels and businesses who would also like to channel their philanthropy through Nema's trusted hands.
Nema’s goal is to provide communities with the support and infrastructure they need to sustainably free themselves from poverty whilst protecting their invaluable environmental resources.
To achieve this we partner with villages and work with them to develop and implement strategies to tackle health, education, water, enterprise and environmental issues within their community. Nema’s holistic approach now reaches a total of 12 villages within Mozambique, totaling some 15,000 people. The projects cover all of the UN’s millennium goals and more, building strong foundations for the sustainable development of each of the villages. The projects are run by local volunteers and each project has a significant contribution from the village.
Some of Nema’s most significant achievements include providing;
• Over 12,000 people access to clean water
• 650 children a nutritious school meal every day
• Over 100 children have received secondary school or vocational scholarships
• Drastic reduction of malaria through distributing of 8,000 mosquito nets through workshops to women who are pregnant or have young children.
• HIV education to all villages through drama groups and performances
• Nutrition and Sanitation family workshops in every household across 5 villages.
• Building of 2 primary schools (on going).
• Support for over 120 artisans in the development and sale of their products.
Through the generous support of Guludo Beach Lodge, Jojo Mamam Bebe and Thin Cats Thinking, 100% of all donations go directly to grass roots projects on the ground.
